The Tenderfoot Film Unit was set up in Cricklewood London and operated in the early 1950's making short but expertly edited films on all aspects of Boy Scouts and Scouting. These rare fragments of film that cover a variety of Boy Scout Troop Shows and Gang Shows give a very clear indication on how these Shows were performed and staged in Church Halls and Scout Huts.As a sequence of performances the boy scouts are seen as "young dancing girls",in sketches and in a ballet sequence where a young boy scout dressed as a "ballerina" is lifted aloft by a senior scout also dressed as a "ballerina" while the rest of the "girls" in the 'Cor Da Balay' look on.There is a scene with a boat on stage full of singing sea scouts and a performance of Ralph's Mexico.Although London at that time looks very grey as do some of the venues where these Gang Shows and Boy Scout Troop Shows took place. The contrast is seen with the boy scouts made-up as pretty little "girls" with their costumes, wigs and bows and stars in their hair.Dr.Stu..
