In the early 1950's Brown & Smart contributed a number of substantial articles to Boy Scout and Scouting Journals.Their particular contribution to 'Boy Scout Troop Shows' and 'Boy Scout Gang Shows' was what they called 'Over Plus'.At a time when many modern 'Gang Shows' sell Programmes with pages full of names;many listed under what is known as 'The Creative Team'.However putting a lot of people together seems to bring forth all the same ideas as many of the other 'Shows' around,or worst still a Gang Show which seems to be a continuous 'Song Cycle' with little to warn the audience that one scene has finished and another had begun.Brown & Smart had some better 'ideas' on how to develop 'ideas' which were always progressive and inventive.Their schemes always included action, music, costume and staging.Their pieces could include scripts by other Gang Show authors which were given the 'Over Plus' Treatment.Their ideas included the further use of animals and caged birds plus a 'running gag' linking all the pieces together to form a 'Whole Show Continuity' ;they even had a bright way of presenting a 'sea of smiling Boy Scout faces'.Dr.Stu..
