In 1916 when the Young Noel Coward sang "Isn't it awfully Jolly
Doing a 'Little Revue'?
Never could be a more
Happy idea
It's nobby and nutty and new"
This was Noel Coward setting down sticks that Ralph would dance away with both in his Professional Career and in his 'Greatest Innovation'.'The Gang Show'.Noel Coward, always a friend, also wrote some wonderful 'Revue Material' some of which helped Ralph in his own writing. In 1925 Coward wrote one of his most Poular Revues "On With The Dance" which contains a piece called 'The Chiorboys Song' with words by Coward and music by Philip Braham "We're Six dirty Chiorboys
With really frightful minds
We Scream and Shout and
Rush about
And pinch our Friends
Behinds"
"Nobody could admire boys with dirty hands and knees. But Countryside rejoyces. At our Sweet Soprano Voices. So we do what we damn well Please !! "Coward Revues always contained what were known as "Mr Cochrans Young Ladies" and in Gang Shows these became Junior Boy Scouts. In the 1932 Revue 'Words and Music' The lines are about 'bras not being set right',about eye liner being unstuck, about girls make-up being the wrong colour. The Chorus contained the same 'la,la,la,la just as Ralphs piece 'Babies only Babies' from the same period.Coward also wrote songs about 'Junenile Delinquents' and in 1945 he wrote a very popular 'Showcase' song for Joyce Grenfel as a Gymslip wearing Schoolgirl which set the tone for such Classics of Ralphs as 'Bing',Love,Love,Love and 'Up Girls' !!
