Although the Boy Scout Association,Ralph and 'The Gang' or 'Crew' as they were still known had "pulled out all the stops" for the 1932 Show,it was the 1933 Show that not only established 'Gang Show' as a fundamental part of 'Scouting',but more importantly "A Must See" Public part of the Scout Movement. That there were extremly favourable reveiws in the Quality Press was one thing although the importance was not so much in what was said but who was says them and where.Sunday October 15 had been The Dress Rehearsal at the Scala Theatre and a Photographer and Repoter or 'hack' as they were then known had arrived from The Daily Telegraph and in the following days edition there was not only a very intreging photograph but a recomendation not to miss this particular Show. The Following days edition carried a Reveiw which was 'Glowing' and even cited the fact that whereas many 'amateur' Productions were slow however in this Production "the keynote is speed",and the Chorus Work was thought to be "Really remarkable in its accuracy and enthusiasm, and talent especially among the younger members of the large .....Cast" The Key Reveiw was contained in the 'Arts','Drama' and 'Show' Weekly "The Sketch" published on Wednesday 18 October.A cross between 'Tit Bits' and 'Country Life' it was read not only by The Royals but by Members of The Aristocracy and their Children who were 'The Bright Young Things' that the poet John Betjeman not only wrote about but was part off. The full page Photo Feature contained not only six Professional Photographs including the first public veiwing or "Babies,Only Babies", "Greta Garbo", in "her" full Ballet dress. The Text also identified The Holborn Rover as nono other than Mr.Ralph Reader. The emphasis was on the items in the Show that would appeal to the 'intellectual' and 'Arty' Readership. The Result was that by Friday and Saturday 20 and 21 October 1933,they were turning hundreds of people away from the Scala Theatre.A Police Constable had to be 'deployed' to take 'charge' of 'The Crowds'.The All London Scout Revue was the 'Toast of the Town'.Dr.Stu
