Presented for the BBC by Albert Stevenson and recorded and retained (Thank God !) on a 'Cinerecording' ,this rare example of a television Presentation of The London Gang Show from 1957 shows just how remarkable the pace and energy of 'The Gang' was, and just how Ralph was able to get some 'take your breath away' performances. The central item was Ralphs 'The Greeks had a word for it to' which is just so full of great performances including dance and movement that certain modern Gang Shows seem almost catatonic in comparison. The sequence, where only certain numbers were recorded, starts with a masterly performance of Ralphs 'Not Now Chaps; Not Now' where the two 'Cockney' Boy Scouts produce two very convincing 'Public School Boys',only letting their 'plumby voices' drop when a 'Cockney line' is introduced. The Performances are so full of life and professional talent at a time when few people had been on television or were used to the medium. The most interesting piece is Ralph talking about going to America to Produce the first American Gang Show in early 1958.Ralph is on such good form sharing his joy about the Gang Show in London in 1957.He hides his face like a little boy in a unscripted and natural sharing of emotion.Another Gem.Dr.Stu..
