To place the 1932 Gang Show in a context of whatever else was going on,happening or taking place is so very important as it gets away from the idea that Gang Show is not of any real worth. In Scouting terms the Gang Show not only became one of it's most important elements, but in what it allowed Scouting to become and develop into it was crucial and still is.Remember that Scouting is whatever it says it is.Thats why it's always been and continues to be Popular with Adolescents not just in this Country but across the world. In the early 1930's when unemployment and poverty was reaching across the Classes the rise in Rover Scouting was noted in several Publication of the time.Young Men were infact encouraged to become Rover Scouts for Psychological and Emotional reasons.Although the term was never used the importance was recognised of 'Male Bonding' which 'The Rover Crew' facilitated. The 1932 Gang Show used all of the 'Bonding Process' to present a very superior Production. One that the Avant-Garde Scala Theatre was more than happy to promote and present. In 1932 Henry Wellcome had opened his Temple To Medical Knowledge around the corner in Euston Road. This was Medicine as Art and Entertainment. In Brescia in Italy The Piazza Della Vittoria was opened in 1932 which contained a Roman-style Sculpture of a Naked Youth. In France the Experimental Genius Film director Jean vigo was developing his Masterpiece 'Zero de Conduite' just like Ralphs early work 'Rebels Are Out'.In Germany Robert Musils 'Young Torless' also took certain themes found in Ralphs early Shows.Infact the Gang Show help to present and establish Cultural and Psychological norms for Adolescent Boy Scouts which have become so much part of Modern Scouting which goes some way to explaining the growth in the Explorer Scouts.Dr.Stu..
