Taking the London Gang Show out of London with most of it's London cast only happened once and that was in 1957 for the Jubilee Jamboree held at Sutton Park in Warwickshire.Although the Camp had its own theatre where there were performances of Boy Scouts taking part in Country Dancing and Scottish Dancing and some Boy Scout Troops put on some sketches, the 'London Gang Show' performed only at the Birmingham Hippodrome. If Boy Scout Patrons thought that they were just going to see a rerun of the 1956 London Gang Show then they were suprised to find that Ralph had set out a rather special Programme.Shorter than the London Gang Show with only eighteen instead of the twenty four items it contained some of the best and most Characteristic of Ralphs writing. The Programme included 'The Owls' Ralphs own 'Meta Memoria','Angus Macdonald','Types','Neighbours','Over The Sea' and 'Services Calling'.The Show ran for ten Performances over the period of a week. Two a night one at 6:15 and one at 8:30.The cheapest Seats were 2/-6p in the Balcony and the Stalls and the Theatre Management made it clear that the whole Theatre had been disinfected throughout with Jeyes Fluid. With a cast of 128 including some local Boy Scouts,it was not an easy show to Produce.Ralphs other Contribution to the Jamboree was 'The Jamboree Song' one of Ralphs unperformed little gems.Although rain at one point had flooded most of the Camp Site it takes more than a drop of two of rain to dampen the 'Scouting Spirit' and amongst the distractions on Site was the 'PYE Pavilion' where Boy Scouts could not only see themselves on 'Television' but could try out a 'Telephone with a Built in Camera'.I can't imagine any Scout being seen dead with such a piece of 'Unscouty' equipment can you !?
